the friday five |

The Friday Five is a collection of things that I’ve found inspirational, fun, pleasurable, interesting, or am thankful for this past week.

#1 – VILLA INCOGNITO BY TOM ROBBINS. Started this as my secondary book (still working on Van Gogh: The Life). Robbins is a perennial re-read for me because he was the first authors where after one paragraph, I immediately decided to read everything he’d ever written. This book in particular is a favorite because it was exactly what I needed when I needed it. Buy it indie here.

#2 – HUGH JACKMAN ON THE TIM FERRISS SHOW. Started listening this morning and already know this’ll be a re-listen to take notes. Lots of good stuff here. Listen here.

#3 – CHANGING UP MY MORNING ROUTINE. Two days… two big, red X’s in boxes. Routine is good, but it’s also meant to be examined and sometimes needs to be broken in order to fix it. This is a ridiculously small sample size, but I’m digging the results so far. Check out what the inspiration for it was.

#4 – TAKING A BREAK. Last Friday was the first time in a few months where Free Range Idiocy took a week off. Since the pandemic began approximately a thousand weeks ago, Tim and I have been consistently recording and posting new episodes each week – because what else are we going to do? Last week, we both put up our hands to sub out. It was refreshing and a reminder for me of why it’s important to keep side projects fun – because they’re supposed to be.

#5 – ALWAYS BE LEARNING. I’ll bust this one out from the Hugh Jackman podcast above because it’s something I’ve been trying to do for years and if Wolverine is on board with it, I guess that’s good encouragement to carry on. Learning to love learning for its own sake has been one of the great joys of my life. Sometimes it’s just an interesting tidbit, or a new skill, or a new way to communicate that helps to improve life. No matter what, I always want to learn something – even if it’s what not to do.

“The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.”
